Hillcrest Hosts Invitational

Freshman Garrett Hurst takes another 1:30 off his personal best at the Hillcrest Invitational.

Hillcrest Academy hosted its annual Invitational Cross Country meet Monday on campus. The meet featured two junior high school races and four high school races.  364 runners finished the six races. Pella won the boys team title with Washington placing second.  Hillcrest Academy was eighth.  Senior Collin Miller led the Hillcrest Ravens in a personal best 19:47 placing twenty-eighth. Freshman Jesse Blossom was the next Raven finisher placing 49th in 22:52.  Senior Jorge Canchola placed fifty-sixth in 23:50.  Deigo Ramos had his high school cross country debut.  Diego placed fifty-seventh in 24:48.  Garrett Hurst showed the biggest improvement on the team taking another 1:30 off his personal best.  Garrett placed fifty-eighth in 26:58.  Quang Huynh was the next finisher.  His time was 27:57.  Isaac Lybeck finished in 29:20 for sixty-second place.  Washington senior Lance Sobaski won the boys varsity race in 17:12.

Senior Leah Bontrager led the Lady Ravens on her final tour of her home course medaling by placing sixteenth in 23:07.  Her time was 2:48 better than her time on the same course at the Early Bird meet in late August.  Delaney Shaw was the next Lady Raven finisher placing thirty-eighth in 27:35.  Morgyn Nafziger was two places back in 29:17.  Senior Julia Boller was three minutes faster than she was at the Early Bird meet.  Julia placed forty-first in 29:42.  Hillcrest did not have the five finishers needed to field a full team.  Washington won the meet by 25 points over second place Pella.  Mya Whitaker of Regina won the girls race in 21:16.

The Hillcrest Academy teams have their next competition at the Southeast Iowa Super Conference meet at Heritage Oaks Golf Club in rural Wapello Thursday, October 7 with the varsity races beginning at 5:00 p.m.
