Iowa School Choice Bill Information

Recently there have been a lot of questions and discussion over this possible legislation being considered in the Iowa House of Representatives (HSB1 now HF68) and Iowa Senate (SSB1022 now SF94). The debate on Universal School Choice has already spilled into the media circles of Iowa. But this debate offers an opportunity for us as parents to demonstrate to our children and the surrounding community what it looks like to be an engaged citizen. We urge each family to do your own research and to prayerfully, slowly, and thoughtfully come to your own conclusion. In order to help our families understand how this could affect Hillcrest Academy, we prepared a document to explain things better.

For those who feel led to engage others in conversations relating to School Choice, we hope and pray that we lead those conversations with compassion, kindness, gentleness, and wisdom. Our Christian testimony is always on display. Lastly, for those who feel led to contact legislators, this is the time to encourage action. There is some information below on how to contact your representatives.

How to Contact Your Representatives

There are many ways to contact your state House and Senate representatives. We have a relationship with the Iowa Association of Christian Schools and they have a convenient online messaging platform. You can also use a platform such as Open States to look up and contact your representative by home address.

We remain thankful that regardless of the outcome of this legislation, we have a God who is faithful, good, and all-knowing. From Romans 8:28, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.”
