Hillcrest Cross Country Teams Compete at Pella Dutch Invite
The Hillcrest Ravens boys cross country team placed eleventh in a field of fourteen full teams Saturday morning at the Pella Dutch invite hosted on the Central College cross country course. The meet was a last-minute addition to the schedule after the Hillcrest Early Bird meet was cancelled earlier this week due to heat. It was still 85 degrees for the 9:10 a.m. start time of the boys’ race in Pella. Freshman Troy Yoder led the way for the Ravens team. Yoder finished thirty-sixth overall with a time of 18:50. Yoder’s conservative start helped him finish strong. Calvin Meller was three places behind Yoder finishing in 19:00. Jaxson Brokaw was the team’s number three runner placing eighty-fourth in 20:27. Braden Hartsock was ninety-sixth in 20:48. Isaac Beachy was the team’s fifth runner and rounded out the scoring placing 175th in 24:22. Lucas Beachy placed 206th in 28:35. Cy Stuart of Chariton won the race in 16:18. Pella Christian won the team title with 56 points.

Marie Yoder opened her senior cross country season in fine fashion placing twenty-third in the girls’ race Saturday. Her time was 22:06 on the hot, muggy morning. Senior Elsie Brenneman of Pella won the race in 18:40. Pella, ranked number one in 3A, won the team title with a stingy 18 points.
