Yoder’s 16Ks and Shaw’s Bomb Silences the Wolves
The Ravens softball team began their season on the road at Winfield Thursday night with a hard-fought win against the Wolves. With game tied at 9 in the top half of the 7th inning, it was a 3-run Homerun by Junior Delaney Shaw that broke open the game for good for the Ravens scoring Morgyn Nafziger and Malia Yoder in the process. They extended the lead and shot down Winfield in the bottom half of the 7th win going away 18-9.
Junior pitcher stand-out, Malia Yoder, collected a career high 16 strikeouts in the game for Hillcrest in the circle while bashing 2 hits with 2 RBIs and scoring 3 times at the plate. Sophomore Stavia Miller had two hits, including a triple and scoring 3 times. Delaney Shaw (also a double), Kylee Statler, Lydia Beachy, and Claire Withrow each had two hits in the game. Morgyn Nafziger scored 3 times while driving in 2 runs.
Hillcrest is set to host Lone Tree next on Tuesday in their Home Opener. JV game starts at 5:30pm with the Varsity to follow.
