Hillcrest Track & Field Secures Strong Finishes at Ekstrand Relays

The Hillcrest Ravens track and field team of seven members scored 91 points to place second in the B division of the Ekstrand Relays in Wayland Thursday night.  The Ravens packed a big 1-2 punch by placing first and second in three separate events.  Marie Yoder and Siena Stanerson placed first and second in both the 1500 and 3000-meter runs.  Yoder recorded a personal best time of 5:19.98 in the 1500, while Stanerson finished in 5:44.84.  Yoder won the 3000 in 11:28.32 while Stanerson finished in a career-best 11:50.50.  Rya Scott and Delaney Shaw went first and second in the long jump.  Scott’s winning jump was fifteen feet eleven inches.  Shaw’s second-place jump was fourteen feet four inches.  Scott and Niva Helmuth went first and third in the 200-meter dash.  Scott won in personal best time of 26.54 eclipsing her previous best by more than one second.  Helmuth’s second-place time of 29.35 was nearly one second better than her previous personal best.  Scott and Nafziger went first and sixth in the 100-meter dash.  Scott’s winning time was 13.09 seconds while Nafziger’s sixth-place time of 13.81 seconds was a big personal best for the third-year Raven.  The 4 x 400-meter relay team of Scott, Stanerson, Yoder, and Shaw placed second in 4:50.15.  The 4 x 200-meter relay team of Nafziger, Helmuth, Natalie Meganathan, and Shaw placed sixth in 2:05.04.  Helmuth was also sixth place in the shot put with a personal best throw of twenty-six foot even.

Three boys competed for the Raven’s boys team.  Each of the team members placed second in one event with the three competing in seven events total.  Kale Bailey had a big night competing in four events and recording two personal bests.  His second place came in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.46 seconds.  Bailey was also third in the high jump clearing the bar at five feet eight inches.  His two personal bests came in the 100-meter dash (12.32 seconds) and 200-meter dash (25.45 seconds).  Owen Scott placed second in the long jump with a jump of nineteen feet eleven inches.  Hartsock completed his first 3200 meter run finishing in second place with a time of 12:46.48.  He also had a personal best time in the 800 of 2:36.60 and competed in the long jump.
