Hillcrest competes at two indoor meets; Bontrager and Scott record personal bests

The Hillcrest Ravens Track and Field teams opened their track season Thursday at the Iowa Track Coaches Association Indoor State meet held at Lied Recreation and Fitness Center at Iowa State University in Ames. The meet was originally to be competed in four classes. Due to inclement weather preventing over 60 schools from attending, the meet was competed with all classes combined into one meet. Two sophomore girls represented the Ravens and competed in three events. Delaney Shaw placed thirty-fifth in the long jump with a jump of fourteen feet two and one half inches. Morgyn Nafziger placed fifty-fifth in the sixty meter dash in 8.82 seconds. She also placed fifty-eighth in the shot put with a throw of twenty-three feet seven inches. This is the Ravens first indoor track and field meet since 2019.
Freshman Owen Scott was the lone Raven competing in the boys meet on Friday. Scott was in a three-way tie for sixth place in the 1A high jump at five foot nine inches. He was nineteenth in the 1A sixty meter dash in 7.695 seconds. He also placed nineteenth in the long jump with a jump of sixteen feet ten and three quarters inches. The Ravens next compete at the Central College indoor meets in Pella March 17 and 18.

Freshman Owen Scott recorded two personal bests in the jumps at the Central College Indoor meet in Pella Friday, March 17. He cleared six foot in the high jump to place second. His long jump of nineteen feet three and one half inches earned him fourth place. Scott also ran the 60 meter dash in 7.93 to place eighty-first out of 205. In the 200 meter dash Scott ran 25.76 to place forty-ninth out of 193 competitors. Jesse Blossom competed in his first track and field meet. Blossom placed twenty-ninth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:31. He also placed thirtieth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:37.
Three Raven girls competed on Saturday in Pella. Delaney Shaw placed fifteenth in the long jump with thirteen feet seven and three quarters inch. Shaw also ran the 400 meter dash in 1:13.45 to place thirty-fifth. Shaw, Morgyn Nafziger and Erin Bontrager all ran the 200 meter dash. Their times were 31.54, 32.32 and 33.86 respectively. Bontrager’s effort was a personal best. Nafziger and Bontrager also ran the 60 meter dash. This event is not competed during the outdoor season. Nafziger’s time was 8.86 seconds for thirty-first place. Bontrager’s time was 9.78 seconds for 103rd place.
