Bontrager Runs Away with Individual Title at Mediapolis
Leah Bontrager ran away with the individual title at the Mediapolis Cross Country Invitational Thursday. Bontrager’s time was 22:45. Leah finished twenty seconds ahead of Cheyanne Bruns of Twin Cedars, her nearest competitor. This was Bontrager’s second individual title in her high school career both occurring this season. The meet was held at Big Hollow Recreation Area on mostly grassy technical trails. It is not a course for fast times. Delaney Shaw placed fourteenth in 26:31. Morgyn Nafziger was twenty-seventh in 29:00 ,while Julia Boller placed twenty-ninth in 31:10. Pekin won the girls team title with 26 points.

Senior Collin Miller had his highest placing in his high school career, Thursday, at the Mediapolis Invitational at Big Hollow. Miller placed fourth in 19:32 on the challenging course. Micah Gerber was the next Raven to finish. Gerber placed nineteenth in 21:42. Jesse Blossom placed twenty-second in 22:05. Senior Jorge Canchola was twenty-third in 22:10. Senior Quang Huynh took one second off his previous personal best time. His time was 25:37 for forty-third place. Garrett Hurst showed the team’s biggest improvement. Hurst lowered his personal best by twenty-six seconds to 26:32. He placed forty-fifth. Host Mediapolis had the first three finishers and took the team title with forty-two points. Solomon Zaug won the race in 18:26.

The Hillcrest Academy girls and boys cross country teams will compete in the 1A state qualifier meet hosted by Regina at Iowa City Kickers Soccer Complex next Thursday. October 21. The girls race is at 4:00 p.m. and the boys begin at 4:45 p.m. The top two teams and ten individuals in each race qualify to advance to the state meet held in Fort Dodge Saturday, October 30.
