Ravens Host Early Bird Cross Country Meet

Hillcrest Academy hosted the Early Bird cross country meet Tuesday August 31 on the school’s campus and in the nearby Joetown woods.  Afternoon showers made the cross country course more authentic due to the muddy conditions.  Eight schools participated in the meet.  Hillcrest runner, Leah Bontrager, represented the host school placing eighth in 25:55 behind seven runners from Iowa City High.  Freshman Ani Wedemeyer of City High won the varsity race in 21:05 over two time defending champion and meet record holder, Rowan Boulter, also of City High.  City High won the girls team race with a perfect score of 15.

Senior Julia Boller and Freshmen Delaney Shaw and Morgyn Nafziger competed in the junior varsity race.  Shaw placed thirtieth in 29:38 while Boller and Nafziger placed fortieth and forty-first in 32:28 and 32:44 respectively.

Senior Collin Miller finished in the top ten in the boys varsity race to lead Hillcrest Academy.  Miller’s time was 21:36 for ninth place.  Freshman Micah Gerber was the next Raven to cross the line placing sixteenth in 22:26.  Jesse Blossom placed thirtieth in 26:20.  Quang Huynh and Garrett Hurst placed thirty-forth and thirty-fifth respectively.  Hillcrest was fourth in the team standings.  Gavin Hall of Cedar Rapids Jefferson won the boys varsity race in 18:36.  Jefferson won the team title with 25 points. 

The Ravens compete next at Fairfield Thursday September 9.
