Ravens Track & Field Competes at Columbus

The Hillcrest Academy girls track and field team of five scored 34 points in their first outing of the season.  The Ravens placed sixth in the eight team field at the Columbus Early Bird meet Monday.  The weather was perfect with temperatures in the 70s at the beginning of the meet.  Leah Bontrager and Delaney Shaw each had second place performances in individual events.  Leah’s came in the 1500 meter run.  Leah finished in 5:49.76 missing first place by .17 seconds.  Delaney placed second in the long jump with a best jump of 14 feet 5.5 inches.  Malia Yoder and Morgyn Nafziger joined Shaw and Bontrager in two relays.  The quartet placed second in the 1600 meter medley relay in 5:05.94 and third in the 800 meter medley relay in 2:08.55.  Yoder placed fifth in the 100 meter dash in 14.66 just .02 second ahead of Nafziger who placed sixth.  Yoder also edged out Shaw in the 200 meter dash but the official results gave them both 31.84 for sixth place.  Erin Bontrager competed well in both the 100 meter and 400 meter dashes.

Senior Quang Huynh is the Hillcrest Academy boys track and field team this year.  Quang ran the 100 and 200 meter dashes in the Columbus Early Bird meet recording personal bests in both.  His 100 meter time was 13.46 seconds and his 200 meter time was 27.67. Huynh placed sixth in the 200 meter dash.  

The Ravens track and field teams compete next in Wapello March 29.
