Hillcrest will be hosting the Hillcrest Invitational cross country meet next Monday, October 5 on the Hillcrest campus and in the adjacent Joetown woods.  “This course is a favorite of many area runners due to the beautiful trail in the woods.”  The competition will be tough with some top-ranked area teams in attendance.  The boys race features Pella and Solon, who are ranked second and fifth respectively in 3A.  Danville-New London is currently ranked number one and Mid-Prairie is ranked number five in 2A.  On the girls side, Mid-Prairie is ranked number two in 2A, while Solon currently sits at fifth in 3A.  Regina is ranked third in 1A.  4A unranked City High will also be competing in the girls races.  The competition begins at 4:00 p.m. with the 2 mile junior high girls race, followed by the junior high boys.  Junior Varsity follows, with the girls varsity starting at 5:40 and boys varsity at 6:10.  Hillcrest athletes Will Kolck, Collin Miller and Jorge Canchola will be running in the boys varsity race.  Madeline Fox with be in the girls junior varisty race, while Kennedy Roth, Julia Boller, Leah Bontrager, Taryn Leichty and Hannah Chalupa will be in the girls varsity race.  All spectators are required to wear masks.
