Hillcrest Hosts Early Bird Meet; Yoder, Stanerson, Meller, Hartsock and Brokaw Medal

Marie Yoder and Siena Stanerson both medaled at the Hillcrest Academy Early Bird cross
country meet Tuesday. Yoder placed eighth in 21:34 while Stanerson was thirteenth in 22:09.
The top twenty places earn medals. Hillcrest hosted twelve teams on the Hillcrest campus
and in the nearby Joetown woods. Forty-seven runners finished the girls’ varsity race. The
girls’ Junior varsity race had 64 finishers. Senior Montgomery McKenna of Albia won the
varsity race in 19:12. City High won the girls team race with a low score of 20.

The Ravens boys team placed seventh of eighth full teams. Freshman Calvin Meller had a
great high school debut and led the way for the Ravens, placing fourteenth in 19:29. Braden
Hartsock was not far behind, finishing in 19:36. Hartsock had a 1:36 improvement over his
time at this meet last year. Freshman Jaxson Brokaw grabbed the last medal, placing twentieth
in 20:01. Isaac Beachy placed thirty-fifth in 21:37. Mateo Rodriguez-Yoder rounded out the
scoring for the Ravens, placing sixty-fourth in 27:16. Freshman Lucas Beachy ran a great race,
placing sixty-sixth in 28:06. 70 runners finished the boys varsity race. 28 runners finished the
boys junior varsity race.
Senior Jude Dykstra of WACO won the boys varsity race in 17:18. Columbus won the team
title with 36 points.
