Wolves and Ravens Volleyball Compete in SEISC Pool Play

Winfield-Mt. Union and Hillcrest matched up with Danville and Burlington Notre Dame last Thursday for pool play in this year’s SEISC Volleyball tournament. The Wolves would take third place, while the Ravens took fourth in the pool.
WMU started their day with a matchup against Danville, dropping both sets 12-21 and 16-21. The Wolves moved on to Burlington Notre Dame, with the Nikes coming out on top in two sets 10-21 and 6-21.
Meanwhile, Hillcrest faced the Nikes in their first contest, with the latter coming away with the 2-0 victory, 14-21 4-21. The Ravens then dropped their next match to Danville in three sets, 17-21 21-16 9-15.
The final match of the day saw WMU and Hillcrest face off against one another with third place in the pool on the line. WMU took the opening set 21-12, but Hillcrest tied things at a set a piece with a 21-17 win in the second set. In the deciding set, the Wolves would get the edge and the win, defeating the Ravens 15-11. WMU’s Kynlee Buffington had 8 kills to lead the Wolves, while Aubrey Valencia recorded 12 assists. WMU had 48 digs and 8 aces. Hillcrest’s Ruth Witthoft had 7 kills for the Ravens. Emma Parizek had 13 assists. The Ravens had 56 digs and four aces.
Danville advanced to Saturday as pool champion, while Burlington Notre Dame moved on as the runner-up.
