Ravens Put Together Strong Showing at Centerville

The Hillcrest Ravens boys cross country team came away with a second place finish at the Centerville Invitational Tuesday. It was another schedule change in what has been a challenging season. For the Ravens the Centerville Invitational replaced the canceled City High meet scheduled for Thursday. The Centerville course is two loops around a lake on a crushed limestone path. It doesn’t get muddy. But the course is 5.49 kilometers instead of the normal 5.0 kilometers. Troy Yoder again led the Ravens placing fifth overall. Calvin Meller was eighth running much of the race with Yoder. Braden Hartsock placed thirteenth while Jaxson Brokaw was twenty-second. Isaac Beachy’s thirty-eighth place rounded out the Raven’s scoring. Paxton Wilson placed fiftieth running faster than he has yet this year. Merle Cronquist and Lucas Beachy were not far behind Wilson. Mateo Rodrigues-Yoder made his first showing of the season to place sixty-third. Lucas Anderson of Chariton won the race in 19:21 crossing the line just ahead of two of his teammates. Chariton won the team title with twenty points.
Marie Yoder had the Ravens highest placing in the meet finishing third in the girls race. Yoder maintained an even pace throughout the race. Amelia Vigneron also competed with the Raven’s jersey placing forty-first. Taryn Ficken of Meadville, Missouri won the race in 23:49. Chariton won the girls team title with thirty-one points.
The Hillcrest Invitational is next on the Ravens cross country schedule. The meet will be held on the Hillcrest campus and in the nearby Joetown woods Monday October 5 starting at 4:00 pm with the girls junior high race.
