Remembering Levi Miller: Principal, 1964–1973
The school community is mourning the loss of Levi Miller, who served as principal from 1964 to 1973 and passed away recently. For nearly a decade, Levi was the steady presence at the helm during one of the most transformative stretches in the school’s history.

A Familiar Face, A Changing Era | Anyone who walked the halls during those years remembers Levi’s horn-rimmed glasses. The thick, black-framed glasses were an iconic part of his look. It became something of a signature, instantly recognizable in every yearbook photo and hallway sighting from 1964 through 1973.
But if the glasses stayed constant, little else did. Photos from his early years show him buttoned up and collar closed. But by the early ’70s, that same collar had loosened as a sign of the times. It’s a small detail, but it tells a bigger story. Levi wasn’t just occupying the principal’s office through a decade of cultural change, he was moving with it, adapting his own style right alongside the shifting of the times.
A Decade of Growth | Levi’s tenure spanned some of the school’s most significant years of growth and change. Top among them was the addition of interscholastic sports. This shift reshaped the school’s identity, student life, and community involvement for generations to come. Steering a school through that kind of institutional change takes patience, vision, and a willingness to adapt, and by every account, Levi brought all three. He led not from behind a fixed idea of how things should be, but by staying present and engaged as the school around him evolved . . . much like that gradually loosening collar suggested.
A Lasting Legacy | Levi Miller’s years as principal left a mark that outlasted his tenure. He is remembered not just for the decisions he made, but for the steady, adaptable leadership he brought to a school in the middle of real change. Our thoughts are with his family and everyone who knew him.
After Levi retired from our school, he went on to be the Principal at one of our sister schools, Bethany Christian School in Goshen, IN until 1976. Here is a link to their article.
