The Hillcrest girls track and field team finished the season on the highest possible note, winning the Class 1A state title in the 4×100 meter relay.

Thursday (Prelims): Rya Scott opened the meet by running 12.54 seconds in the 100m prelims — just off her school record of 12.53. She also posted 26.54 in the 200m prelims. Marie Yoder competed in the 3,000m, finishing 23rd (11:39.95).

Friday (Relay Prelims): The 4×100 relay team of Karina Bourha, Adia Scott, Niva Helmuth, and Rya Scott won their heat by the narrowest of margins in a school-record 49.71 seconds, punching their ticket to Saturday’s finals.

Saturday (Finals): The same relay quartet came back and won the state championship going away, clocking 49.29 seconds — another school record. It was the sixth time the team had broken the school record in a single season; Brynna Boshart was on the relay for the first two of those record-breaking runs.

Rya Scott also placed 6th in the 100m finals (12.66 sec) and 14th in the 200m.

The relay team’s state title represents one of the top achievements in Hillcrest track and field history.
