Hillcrest Relay Team Wins State Title in Record Fashion

The Hillcrest Academy girls track and field team ended the season on a high note winning the 4 x 100 meter relay race at the state meet Saturday in Des Moines. The quartet of Karina Bourha, Adia Scott, Niva Helmuth and Rya Scott qualified for the finals on Friday winning their heat by a hair in a school record time of 49.71 seconds. Saturday the same group won the finals going away in 49.29 seconds. The Ravens girls team has lowered the school record for the 4 x 100 meter relay six times this season. Brynna Boshart was on the relay team the first two times the record was broken. The Ravens girls team also scored points at the state meet in the 100 meter dash. Rya Scott placed sixth in the finals Saturday running 12.66 seconds. Her time in the preliminary round on Thursday was 12.54 seconds. Rya holds the school record of 12.53 seconds in that event. Scott also placed fourteenth in the 200 meter dash. Her time in the preliminary round Thursday was 26.54 seconds. Scott’s school record in this event is 26.16 seconds. Also on Thursday, Marie Yoder placed twenty-third in the 3000 meter run in 11:39.95.
