Hillcrest Ends Regular Season with Shutout Win at Sigourney-Keota

Hillcrest 2, Sigourney Keota 0

The Hillcrest Ravens finished the regular season with a 2-0 win over Sigourney-Keota in Sigourney. The Ravens struggled with the warm temperatures and a fired up S-K team hoping to send their seniors off with a win.

The Ravens found the scoreboard early in the game on a long throw-in from Kale Bailey who put the ball in front of the goal where Isaac Beachy pushed the ball across the goal line. Despite numerous runs into the box, The S-K keeper was active and gobbled up many of the threatening balls before the Ravens could get off a shot. On the other end the Ravens defense limited S-K to even fewer chances though they had the wind at their backs. At half the score remained 1-0.

In the second half the Ravens had the wind at their backs. After some nice give and go passing down the side, Angel Sambrano got the ball to Isaac Birky who fired a shot low to the near post which slipped through the goalies grasp for the 2-0 lead with nearly 35 minutes left in the period. The defense held strong and the offense maintained the pressure earning 10 cornerkicks and numerous deep throw-ins, but failing to push anything into the net. Garrett Bontrager and Beckett Miiller combined for the shutout in goal.

The Ravens finish the regular season with an overall record of 7-7 and a conference record of 6-2. The Ravens have a quick turnaround, hosting the Columbus Catholic Sailors, in the first round of substate play, Monday at 7:00 pm.
