Ravens Shine at State Qualifier with Wins and Personal Bests

The Hillcrest Ravens girls track and field team had two event winners at the state qualifier meet Thursday in Sigourney. Rya Scott won the 100 meter dash in 12.79 seconds. The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Karina Bourha, Adia Scott, Niva Helmuth and Rya Scott won a close five-way race in 51.08 seconds. The top five teams finished within 0.60 seconds. Both events automatically qualify for the state meet next week at Drake stadium in Des Moines. The event winners across the ten 1A state qualifier meets qualify for the state meet. The next best fourteen marks across the entire state also qualify for the state meet. Qualifiers based on marks will be announced Friday. Top place winners for the Ravens include Rya Scott with second place in the 200 meter dash in 26.80 seconds. Adia Scott placed fourth in the 200 in 27.82 seconds. Marie Yoder placed fourth in the 3000 meter run in 11:38.79. Siena Stanerson was fifth in the 3000 in 11:51.66. Adia Scott placed fifth in the 100 meter dash in 13.33 seconds. Marie Yoder was sixth in the 1500 meter run in 5:34.38. Niva Helmuth was sixth in the shot put with a heave of thirty-one feet 2.75 inches. Molly Birky had a personal best in the discus of sixty-six feet three inches. Brynna Boshart’s personal best came in the 100 meter hurdles. Millie Severino improved on her 800 meter best time.


Braden Hartsock had the highest place for the boys with his third place in the 3200 meter run. His time was 11:16.64. Enoch Adza was fifth in the 400 meter dash in a personal best time of 54.88 seconds. Kayden Estell also recorded a personal best in the 400 meter dash. Estell completed the one lap race in 56.59 seconds. Estell also lowered his personal best in the 200 meters to 24.07 seconds. He placed fifth. Calvin Meller had a personal best time in the 1600 meter run of 5:30.07.
