Three local boys golf teams flexed their muscles at Wednesday’s Class 1A sectional at the Marengo Golf Course.
Hillcrest Academy was the wire-to-wire team winner, with their total of 310. The Ravens were led by an individual championship round for Rowan Miller who shot a blistering five-under-par 67. Other Ravens included Lawson Schrock 78, Ethan Yoder 80, Jack Turner 85, Matthew Chalupa 87 and Oliver Miller 97. Following their team title the Ravens joined KCII Sports to talk about the win. “The course was great, but it was windier than anyone expected. There were some gusts that were blowing bags and carts over. Just had to keep the ball low and out of the wind. It was good for us to play in conditions like that so we can be ready for districts on Monday. For most of us it was a good start and the front nine went well. You were also able to learn from the course on the front nine so you could pick things up for the back nine. We were able to play well. This feels great! Really good! Second place was about six to ten strokes behind us all day. We knew that we played well and were pretty confident in our first place finish.”
Second place went to the Sigourney Savages and their score of 316. Top number for Sigourney was Ike Molyneux with a 76, followed by Jordan Tremmel 77, Solon Yates 79, Landon Conrad 84 and Josh Wyatt and Hayden Bensmiller 86 each.
Keota was third with their 318 group score. Brennan McGuire paced the Eagles with a 77, followed by teammates Tucker Sprouse 78, Porter Cave 80, Aspen Galindo 83, Jacob Libe 85 and Blake Baker 89.
All three local teams advance to Monday’s District Tournament at Oskaloosa to play for a bid to the 1A State Tournament.
