Ravens Roll Past Wapello 9-0 Behind Sambrano Hat Trick

Hillcrest 9, Wapello 0 soccer

It took the Ravens less than two minutes to score on a goal from Jaxon Brokaw, assisted by Isaac Birky to show the Ravens were intent on adding to their win total. While Wapello tightened their defense the Ravens controlled the majority of the possession as the back line of Lincoln Miller, Simon Willems, Beckett Slaubaugh and Rhys Bender and midfielders Danny Meyers and Kale Bailey shut down Wapello’s attack.

The Ravens continued to create chances but struggled to put anything by the goalie until Mateo Rodriguez Yoder crossed the ball into the front of the goal mouth. No one was able to finish, but Abe Widmer sent the ball back out to Mateo who hit the ball into the far post for the 2-0 lead. Angel Sambrano took over scoring the next two goals. The first goal came after a long throw-in from Kale Bailey was gathered in by Widmer who tapped the ball to Sambrano who turned the ball into the net. Sambrano’s next goal came when he gathered in a long clearance from Lincoln Miller and beat the goalie for the 4-0 half-time score.

In the opening minutes of the second half, Brokaw again started the scoring, finding the ball in front of the net after the goalie knocked down a shot from Sambrano. The next goal came off the head of Isaac Birky on an assist from Brendan Neuschwander. Beckett Slaubaugh added to the scoring from his left defender position on an assist from Miller. Angel Sambrano finished his hat trick on an assist from Calvin Meller to make it 8-0. Meller then beat three defenders on a run down the left side, before cutting in and shooting, hitting the goal for the 9-0 final score. Garrett Bontrager recorded 2 saves and cut off several other promising attacks.

The Ravens improve to 4-7 overall and 4-2 in conference play. The Ravens return to action Monday, hosting Mediapolis, then finish off the conference schedule, traveling to Central Lee, Tuesday. After Monday’s game, the four Raven seniors and their parents will be honored.
