Issac Birky led the way with two goals and an assist as the Ravens won their first home game of the season Friday, hosting the WACO Warriors. The first goal started with Lincoln Miller throwing the ball into the box where it was knocked around before Charlie Hughes touched it wide to Birky who sent it by the goalie twelve minutes into the match. Minutes later Birky got the ball wide, beat a defender, then passed it to Isaac Beachy who calmly turned it into the goal. Birky continued his streak two minutes later when Rowan Miller sent a pass to Birky allowing him to run onto the ball and send it to the far post of the goal for a 3-0 halftime lead.

In the meantime the Ravens defense led by Lincoln Miller, Kale Bailey, Rhys Bender and Beckett Slaubaugh along with Danny Meyers, Charlie Hughes and Abe Widmer limited WACO’s offense. Playing in goal, Beckett Miiller made two saves, while cutting off numerous balls to keep the shut-out.

In the second half the Ravens continued to put pressure on the WACO goal but had difficulty getting anything by the goalie. Thirteen minutes into the half, a shot deflected off the goalies hands and the ball found its way to Beckett Slaubaugh. Slaubaugh gathered in the ball, beat a defender and sent a shot by the goalie for the final goal of the game.

Hillcrest improves to 2-1 in conference play and 2-6 overall. The Ravens return to action Tuesday against Columbus with both Varsity and JV matches.
