Kalona Hosts Local Trio in Triangular

Three local schools squared off in a high-level display of golfing prowess Tuesday at the Kalona Golf Course in an all-KCII area triangular.

On the boys side of the event, the Sigourney Savages were the winners with group score of 168, beating the home Hillcrest Academy Raven’s 173. Sigourney leader was Ike Molyneux with a medalist runner-up 41. He was followed by Jordan Tremmel and Solon Yates at 42, Josh Wyatt had 43 and Landon Conrad and Chase Clarahan at 44 each. Molyneux spoke with KCII Sports about the team victory.

Molyneux said, “The boys played pretty well. We had five of the top seven scores. The course was playing tough today so the scores were a little higher than we normally shoot, but we still got the win.”

Sigourney was 18-1 with the wins.

Hillcrest Academy was led by individual champ Rowan Miller with a two-over-par 38. Other Ravens included Lawson Schrock 43, Matthew Chalupa 45, Jack Turner 47, Rylan Good 48, and Ethan Yoder 51. The Ravens were 17-5 after the event.

Highland was third at 201 with the leaders Kyler Fink, Ryker Gerot and Presten Smith all at 50. Keegan Sexton shot 51, Isaac Giesmann 55 and Lane Frank 76. Highland was 0-29.

For the girls event, Highland was the team winner with a 194, paced by medalist Adisyn Prottsman’s 43. Other Huskies included medalist runner-up Emersyn Schultz 44, Joslyn Prottsman 49, Autumn Guseman and Kenzie Davis 58 with Cassidy Duster 67. Adisyn Prottsman spoke after the meet with KCII Sports about her medalist round and the team’s win.

Prottsman said, “I think this is definitely one of the better rounds the girls have had this year. There is definitely still room for improvement this season, but I think we did pretty well overall.”

After the victories Highland was 23-2.

Sigourney was second with a 215, led by Ella Brun’s 52. Other Savages included Kayla Renner and Ellie Ireland 54 with Clara Hanselman 55. After the split, Sigourney stood at 7-2.

Hillcrest Academy was third at 224 led by Claire Withrow’s 49. Other Ravens included Ava Miller 56, Annika Schrock 59, Emma Parizek 60, Brynna O’Rourke 64 and Maddie Carolan 66. Following the losses Hillcrest was 7-5.
