Ravens Soar Past Highland 10-0 in Stormy Shutout

Hillcrest Ravens vs. Highland Huskies
4.13.2026
The Hillcrest Ravens soared to a victory defeating the Highland Huskies 10-0 on a night when many wondered if the game could be played, given the stormy conditions. The storm clouds passed on either side of the Highland field providing the Ravens the opportunity to create numerous goals.
The scoring started three minutes into the match when Jaxson Brokaw sent a ball to Angel Sambrano who turned it by the goalie. Minutes later, Brokaw took a pass from Lincoln Miller and headed it into the goal. Playing defense from his forward spot, Sambrano stuck his leg out to block a Highland clearance and watched as it ricocheted over the goalies head and into the net.
After winning a golf match earlier in the day, Rowan Miller stepped onto the field making an important impact as he set up the next three goals by Calvin Meller, Mateo Rodriguez-Yoder and Isaac Beachy. Charlie Hughes finished the first half scoring, first heading the ball in off a corner kick from Lincoln Miller and then scoring on a goal set up by Rowan Miller and Sambrano, for the 8-0 half-time score.
In the second half, the Ravens were awarded a penalty kick, which was calmly converted by Lincoln Miller. The Ravens subbed liberally as all the bench players were given extensive minutes. With 11 minutes remaining in the match, Jude Ours gathered in a pass from Rhys Bender and lofted the ball over the goalies head and into the net to end the game 10-0.
The defensive unit of Lincoln Miller, Simon Willems, Becket Slaubaugh and Beckett Miiller played well. Garrett Bontrager had two first half saves and Becket Miiller added two saves in the second half as they combined for the first shutout of the season.
The Ravens are now 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The Ravens return to action Saturday, playing a strong West Central Valley team in Stuart, Iowa. Other teams participating in the tournament are Columbus Catholic and Pella Christian.
