The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls soccer team scored their first win of the season Thursday, beating the visiting Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union Wildcats 3-0. Defenses dictated action early with the game scoreless at intermission. The Golden Hawks found the offensive answers in the second half. Kealy Roberts broke the scoreless tie with a 45th minute goal. A pair of insurance tallies came later for the Hawks with Meadow Flynn finding the back of the net in the 57th minute and Ruth Witthoft in the 70th minute. It was the first goal of the year for each member of the scoring trio. Flynn, Brooklyn Schneider and Samantha Wunderlich supplied the assists. Mid-Prairie had eight total shots on goal to seven for Columbus. Niva Helmuth recorded the Golden Hawk clean sheet in goal with seven saves. Sarai Martinez had five saves on the back line for the Wildcats. Each team stands at 1-1 after Thursday’s action.
