The Hillcrest Academy Board is delighted to announce Nate Miller ‘96 as Head of School beginning the 2026–2027 school year. A familiar and trusted presence at Hillcrest, he currently serves as Interim Principal and previously taught mathematics.

The search committee and Board recognized and valued Nate’s steadfast faith, strong character, professional excellence, and clear, forward-looking vision. In his interim role, he has steady and thoughtful leadership, demonstrating a deep commitment to Hillcrest’s mission. We are confident he is uniquely equipped to lead the school toward continued excellence and sustainable growth.

As Head of School, Nate becomes the 14th person to lead our institution, joining a leadership legacy that spans more than 80 years. He will serve as lead administrator, working closely with the Dean of Students, Dean of Academics, and the rest of the Administrative Team to support faculty, students, and families. He will guide strategic vision and planning while overseeing board relations, donor and constituent engagement, facilities, and finances.

Throughout his years at Hillcrest, Nate has built deep trust across the community. He is an empathetic listener, a clear communicator, and a humble, collaborative leader. With decades of classroom experience, he brings a rich understanding of teaching and learning, a commitment to faculty development and retention, and a passion for cultivating a supportive, Christ-centered culture. His calm, patient, and fair leadership fosters confidence and unity.

You’ll often spot Nate around campus with his trademark pencil tucked behind his ear. It serves as a constant reminder that he is prepared to lead us through every challenge and triumph. We look forward to seeing that pencil behind his ear for many years to come as he guides us toward a bright and ambitious future.

Nate lives in Kalona and attends Kalona Mennonite Church. He is married to Stacy Ropp Miller ‘95 and they are parents to three sons Noah ‘22, Rowan ‘26, and Kellen ‘30.

Please join us in celebrating Nate’s appointment and praying for his continued leadership at Hillcrest Academy.
