Hillcrest Hosts Annual Cross Country Invitational

Hillcrest Academy hosted its annual Invitational Cross Country meet Monday on campus.
The meet featured two junior high school races and four high school races. 354 runners
finished the six races. Washington and Louisa-Muscatine boys teams tied for first place
in the scoring with Washington winning the meet due to their sixth runner finishing ahead
of Louisa-Muscatine’s sixth runner. Hillcrest boys placed seventh of eight full boys
team. Freshman Calvin Meller was the first Raven to cross the finish line placing
thirteenth. His time of 18:56 was over thirty seconds better than his first outing on the
course five weeks ago. Jaxson Brokaw was next for the Ravens placing thirty-eighth in
20:45. Isaac Beachy also improved his time from the Early Bird meet run on this course
in early September. Isaac placed forty-third in 21:21. Braden Hartsock has a rough race
finishing in fifty-first place in 23:57. Mateo Rodrigues-Yoder was two and a half
minutes faster than his first outing on this course this year. He placed fifty-third in 27:16.
Lucas Beachy ran his all-time best 5k finishing in 25:41 for fifty-sixth place.
Washington senior Andrew Rees won the individual title in 17:10.

The Ravens had four athletes compete in the girls’ varsity race Monday at Hillcrest.
Marie Yoder ran strongly placing third overall with a time of 21:08. This was twenty-six
seconds faster than she ran at the early bird meet in early September. Siena Stanerson
also bettered her time from the early bird meet placing fifth in 21:47. Stavia Miller
completed her first cross country race covering the five kilometers in 28:44 to finish
forty-third. Adrianne Blauvelt also ran her first high school cross country race finishing
forty-forth in 33:21. Sophomore Fiona McGill of Louisa-Muscatine won the individual
title in 20:09. English Valleys won the team title with 42 points.
Six athletes from Hillcrest competed in the junior high boys race. The Hillcrest boys
team placed sixth of ten teams. Everett Ward, Noah Coblenz and Paxton Wilson all had
personal best times.

The Hillcrest Academy cross country teams host the Southeast Iowa Super Conference
meet next Tuesday October 14 on the Hillcrest Academy campus.
