Ravens Run at IC Kickers

The Hillcrest Ravens met up with some quality competition and warm conditions at the Iowa City Kickers soccer complex Thursday at the Bud and Bonnie Williams Invitational hosted by Iowa City High. It was eighty-six degrees at race time. Marie Yoder placed twenty-sixth covering the 5 kilometer course in 21:16. Carla Rapael also ran for the Ravens finishing the race in 34:50 for sixty-seventh place. Izzy Hardin of Maquoketa won the race in 18:07. City High edged out Dubuque Senior for the team title.

The Ravens boys cross country team found themselves further back in the pack at the highly competitive City High meet Thursday at the Kickers soccer complex. Calvin Meller was the team’s number one runner placing seventy-second in 19:13. Braden Hartsock was a solid number two for the Ravens placing eighty-fourth in 19:59. Jaxson Brokaw was next for the Ravens placing one hundredth in 21:15. Mateo Rodriguez- Yoder placed 118th in 25:30, while Lucas Beachy rounded out the team scoring placing 121st in 28:15. The Ravens placed thirteenth in the field of fourteen full teams. Junior Cole Carrizales of Cedar Rapids Prairie won the individual title in 15:43. Prairie also won the boys team title.
In the middle school races for Hillcrest Braxton Ropp, Kellen Miller, Paxton Wilson, Noah Coblenz and Everett Ward all recorded personal bests, with Merle Cronquist running his second best time on a two mile course.
Monday October 6 the Raven cross country teams host the Hillcrest Academy Invitational on the school campus and in the Joetown woods. The meet features twelve boys and girls high school teams and twelve middle school teams. The meet starts at 4:00 p.m. with two junior high races followed by four high school races. High school races begin at 4:35 starting with the girls junior varsity race. Come cheer for the Ravens!
