Ravens Roll Against Warriors – SOFTBALL – June 23, 2025
The Hillcrest Academy Raven Softball team posted a four inning win Friday, taking down WACO 20-0. The Ravens took control with a 10-run first inning and added six in the second and four in the third. Hillcrest out hit WACO 8-2 and took advantage of six Warrior errors and nine walks. WACO drew a pair of walks. Lyla Genkinger got the win for Hillcrest, going three innings with two hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Malia Yoder and Marryn Boshart each had two hits for the Ravens. Delaney Shaw and Brynna Boshart each drove in two, Shaw homered. Adrianne Blauvelt scored three times, Morgyn Nafziger, Claire Miller, Yoder and Marryn Boshart twice each.

WACO got one hit each from Natalie Wagler and Shanae Riley. Addison Alliman and Kaylan Willits each drew a walk. Savannah Harris threw three innings, giving up eight hits, eight earned runs, nine walks and four strikeouts. The Ravens stand at 9-9 on the year as WACO dips to 0-12.

Ravens Get Revenge On Arrows; First Win Over Wapello Since 2013 – SOFTBALL – June 21, 2025
The Hillcrest Academy Raven softball team picked up a signature win Thursday, outslugging Wapello 10-8 on the road. The Arrows scored three in the second to take the early lead, only to see Hillcrest answer with two in the third and six in the fifth to go on top 8-3. An Arrow run in the bottom of five made it 8-4, with two more from the Ravens in the sixth running the score to 10-4. A Wapello last at-bat rally plated four, but the Ravens escaped with the win.

The Arrows out hit Hillcrest 9-7. The Ravens drew six walks and issued four. Malia Yoder and Ella Mize had two hits each for the Ravens. Adrienne Blauvelt and Yoder scored twice. Mize, Morgyn Nafziger, Delaney Shaw, Claire Withrow, Marryn Boshart, Lydia Beachy and Stavia Miller all had one RBI for Hillcrest. Yoder got the win, going six and two thirds, giving up nine hits, three earned runs, four walks and striking out seven. Mize recorded the save getting the final out. Top Wapello bat was Mila Jodran with three hits driving in two. Quinn Zweibohmer took the loss after working four and a third, with four hits, four earned runs, five walks and seven Ks. This is the first Raven win over Wapello in 12 years, moving their record to 7-9 as the Arrows fall to 8-7.

Hillcrest Holds Off Panthers in Baseball/Softball Sweep; Anderson Throws No-Hitter at Home – BASEBALL/SOFTBALL – June 19, 2025
It was a win for both Hillcrest Academy summer sports teams Tuesday over the Pekin Panthers. The Raven softballers were 9-7 winners. Hillcrest did their work early, scoring four in the first, and five in the second to build a 9-0 lead, then held on during a Pekin rally that included three runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth. The Panthers out hit Hillcrest 8-6. The Ravens drew seven walks and issued four. Stavia Miller and Ella Mize combined for four hits, three RBI and two runs scored to lead the Raven attack. Annika Schrock and Marryn Boshart had an RBI each. Malia Yoder and Delaney Shaw each scored twice. Yoder got the win and Mize the save in the circle with combined eight hits allowed, five earned runs, four walks and seven strikeouts. The Ravens improve to 7-9, Pekin is now 5-11.

Phoenix Anderson put on a masterclass against the Panther hitters, carving up the Pekin lineup for a no-hitter in a 2-0 Raven boys win. Hillcrest scored single runs in the first and fourth and made them stand up. Anderson allowed nothing but a walk in five innings while striking out one. Seth Ours led Hillcrest at the plate with two hits, Liam Schrock and Bryce Bailey each had a hit and an RBI. Mason Bender and Lincoln Miller scored once each. Hillcrest is now 6-6, while the Panthers drop to 5-6.

Raven Summer Teams Split With Tigers – BASEBALL/SOFTBALL – June 18, 2025
It was a Monday Southeast Iowa Superconference cross over split for Hillcrest Academy Raven baseball and softball against New London Tigers. The Raven girls were an 11-7 winner over New London/Winfield-Mt. Union. Bats on both sides were hot early with the Ravens posting a pair in the first and the Tigers answering with four in the bottom half to go up 4-2. The Raven response was five runs in the second and four more in the third to build an 11-4 advantage. The Tiger’s rally fell short with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Hillcrest out hit New London/Winfield-Mt. Union 14-7 on the night and drew five walks while issuing eight. Malia Yoder powered the Ravens with four hits, including a homer and four RBI, with a pair of runs scored. Delaney Shaw and Claire Withrow each drove in two. Shaw finished with three hits. Morgyn Nafziger and Kylee Statler each had two hits and an RBI. Yoder and Ella Mize worked in the circle, combining on seven hits, four earned runs, eight walks and 10 strikeouts. Tiger leaders included Olivia Hester with two hits and an RBI. Jayda Nichols knocked in two. Kylea Schwenker took the loss in the circle, going seven with 14 hits, eight earned runs, five walks and eight strikeouts. Hillcrest was 6-9 after the win. New London is now 1-14.

The Tigers tripped up the Ravens on the baseball diamond 5-4 with a walk-off. The two teams rode the see-saw early with Hillcrest scoring once in the top of the first, the Tigers with two in the bottom, a pair from Hillcrest in the third and one in the fourth put them up 4-2. New London tied the game at four with two in the fifth then got the game winner in the seventh. The Ravens were out hit 12-4, but drew eight walks and gave up only two. Liam Schrock had a triple and the lone Hillcrest RBI. Seth Ours had a hit and scored twice. Rowan Miller and Bryce Bailey had one knock each. Schrock took the loss going six and a third with 10 hits, three earned runs, two walks and five strikeouts. The Ravens are 5-5, New London improves to 9-6.

Raven Boys and Girls Get Splits at Hillcrest Classic Saturday – BASEBALL/SOFTBALL – June 17, 2025
It was a win and a loss each on Saturday for the Hillcrest Academy Raven baseball and softball teams when they hosted their annual Hillcrest Classics in Kalona.

The Raven girls got a win over Danville 7-4. The Ravens pushed across one in the first for an early lead, but the Bears rebounded with four in the third to go up 4-1. Hillcrest tied it in the bottom half, then scored three times in the fifth to take the lead for good. The Ravens out hit the Bears 9-4 in total. Delaney Shaw had a two hit game, driving in two and scoring twice. Claire Withrow and Malia Yoder each had two hits. Ella Mize had an RBI. Yoder went six innings in the circle with four hits, one earned run, a walk and four strikeouts.

The Ravens were on the wrong end of a 4-3 score against Holy Trinity Catholic. The Crusaders built a lead with two runs in the third and two more in the fifth. The Hillcrest rally came up short with a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh. The Ravens out hit the Crusaders 10-7 in total and gave up four walks while drawing one. Yoder and Mize combined on six hits with Yoder driving in one. Withrow and Shaw each added an RBI. Yoder and Mize also went all seven in the circle with seven hits, four runs, four walks and a strikeout. After the weekend the Ravens stand at 5-9 on the year.

On the baseball diamond, the Ravens clubbed Keokuk 13-0 in just five innings. Hillcrest hung a half dozen in the first, added another in the second and six more in the third. The Ravens had five hits and capitalized on seven walks and two hit batters. Liam Schrock turned campus into a launching pad, belting two home runs and driving in five, while scoring three times. Rowan Miller added three RBI and scored a run on a hit. Mason Bender, Lawson Schrock, Phoenix Anderson and Lincoln Miller all drove in a run. Lawson Schrock recorded the win on the mound, going all five with three hits, no runs, one walk and three punchouts.

Central Lee stung Hillcrest 8-7 in the second game of the tourney. The Ravens went up 1-0, only to watch the Hawks race by them with one in the second, two in the third, four in the fourth and another in the seventh to build an 8-1 lead. A wild Raven rally saw six runs score in the seventh, but come up just short. Central Lee out hit Hillcrest 9-8 in total. The Ravens drew four walks and gave up two. Liam Schrock homered for the third time on the day, driving in three more and scoring a run. The Masons, Helmuth and Bender combined on four hits and three knocked in with two scored. Ethan Yoder and Danny Meyer handled the work on the hill going seven combined with seven hits, six earned runs, two walks and a strikeout. After the split, Hillcrest stood at 5-4 on the year.
