Warriors Sweep Raven Girls and Boys Monday
The Hillcrest Academy Raven softball and baseball teams dropped Southeast Iowa Superconference crossover games Monday to visiting Van Buren. The Raven softball squad fell by a 9-2 score. The Warriors went up early with one in the first and three more in the second to lead 4-0. The Ravens got one in the third to get within 4-1, but two each for the Warriors in the fourth and fifth put the Ravens down 8-1 and they weren’t able to recover. Hillcrest was out hit 14-6 in the game, and gave up four extra base hits. Claire Withrow, Malia Yoder, Morgyn Nafziger, Delaney Shaw, Stavia Miller and Ella Mize had one hit each. Shaw had the RBI and Nafziger and Miller each scored a run. Yoder worked all seven in the circle with 11 hits, seven earned runs and seven strikeouts. The loss dropped the Ravens to 3-6. They see Belle Plaine Thursday.
The Hillcrest boys were edged out 3-2. The Ravens pushed across a pair in the first to lead 2-0, but single Warrior runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh completed the comeback for Van Buren. Hillcrest was out hit 5-4 and gave up a pair of walks. Liam Schrock, Rowan Miller, Mason Helmuth and Phoenix Anderson each had a hit. Helmuth and Mason Bender had one RBI each and Schrock and Miller scored a run. Schrock worked all seven on the hill, giving up four hits, one earned run, two walks and striking out two. The Ravens were even at 2-2 after the loss. They see Winfield-Mt. Union/Columbus Thursday.

Ravens Rout BP in Five – Softball
The Hillcrest Academy Raven softball team brought the lumber to Belle Plaine Thursday in a 15-5 win in five innings over the Plaineswomen. The Ravens put up two runs in the first and BP answered with three in the bottom half to take one run lead and extended that to 4-2 with a tally in the second. From there, it was all Ravens, scoring twice in the third, six times in the fourth and five more in the fifth to end the game early. Hillcrest out hit Belle Plaine 12-7 and drew 13 walks. Delaney Shaw drove in four on two hits and scored twice. Morgyn Nafziger had three RBI on a hit with two runs scored. Marryn Boshart and Lydia Beachy each had two driven in. Malia Yoder had three hits and an RBI. Yoder also got the win in the circle with four innings, five hits, three earned runs, a walk and seven strikeouts.
The loss kept Belle Plaine winless and pushed Hillcrest to 4-7.

Ravens Score Road Win Over Wolves – Baseball
In a tightly contested Southeast Iowa Superconference baseball contest Thursday in Winfield, the Hillcrest Academy Ravens were road winners over Winfield-Mt. Union 3-2. Hillcrest got on the board first with two in the opening frame. The Wolves answered with a run in the second to cut the lead in half, and tied it with another in the fourth. Things stayed that way until the seventh, when the Ravens scratched out one, and held the Wolves scoreless through the bottom half for the victory. WMU doubled up Hillcrest in hits 8-4. The Ravens drew five walks to the Wolves three. Rowan Miller had a two hit day for Hillcrest. Mason Helmuth and Liam Schrock also had an RBI each. Schrock, Rowan and Lincoln Miller each scored once. Phoenix Anderson threw a complete game with seven hits, two earned runs, three walks and six punchouts.
Winfield-Mt. Union had two hit nights each from Kohbly Newsom, Riley Kaalberg and Trevor Phillips. Phillips and Gavin Prior each had an RBI. Kason Dopler threw six innings with three hits, one earned run, four walks and six strikeouts. The Ravens run their record to 4-2 while WMU drops to 2-7.
