Junior Owen Scott placed third in the 1A long jump at the Iowa high school state track and field championships in Des Moines Thursday. Scott jumped twenty-one feet seven inches twice during the competition. The first time was his third and final jump of the preliminary round. He equaled that jump on his final jump of the finals. Scott also placed third at the state meet last year with twenty-one feet 7.75 inches. Owen set the school long jump record in the state qualifier meet in Wayland last Thursday. That mark stands at twenty-two feet 7.75 inches. Scott also competed in the 400-meter dash Thursday, placing twenty-second in 55.66 seconds.
Sophomore Marie Yoder ran a personal best performance in the 3000 meter run of 11:09.17 to place eleventh. Her previous best of 11:17.75 was set at the state qualifier meet in 2024. She placed sixteenth at the state meet in 2024.
Junior Rya Scott competed in two short sprints Thursday in Des Moines. Scott placed fifteenth in the 100-meter dash in 13.00 seconds. She also placed twentieth in the 200-meter dash in 26.85. Scott sustained a hamstring injury at the state qualifier meet last Thursday. She worked hard to speed her recovery to be able to get to the starting line again in just seven days. Scott set the school record in both events during the 2024 season.
