Hillcrest Archers Compete at State

The Golden Hawks Archery Club had a successful run at the 2025 Iowa Championship Tournament. Five Hillcrest archers (who are part of the club) traveled to the Iowa State Fairgrounds for the State Tournament the weekend of March 1. Senior Morgyn Nafziger, sophomore Ava Miller, and 7th graders Noah Coblentz, Braxton Ropp, and Mason Schneider all competed in both Bullseye and 3D championships. Noah Coblentz led the Bullseye middle school team with a score of 281. He completed the tournament ranked 12th out of 493 middle school boys. Right on Coblentz’s tail is Braxton Ropp with a score of 280, Ropp ranked 16 out of 493 middle school boys. Mason Schneider earned a score of 271 and was ranked 197 out of 493. The middle school Bullseye team finished the tournament by placing 7th out of 27 teams with a combined score of 3229 and earning themselves a spot at Nationals.

On the high school team, Ava Miller earned a score of 284 and placed 21st out of 852 overall girls. Morgyn Nafziger scored 273 and placed 151 out of 852 overall girls. The high school Bullseye team placed 11 out of 34 teams with a score 3327 also earning a spot at Nationals.

Over on the 3D range, Coblentz led the Hillcrest archers with a score of 272 and a ranking of 127 out of 600 overall boys. Ropp earned a score of 262 and ranked 243 out of 600 overall boys. Mason Schneider was close behind with a 249 and a rank of 387 out of 600 overall boys. The middle school 3D team finished 18th out of 26 teams and earned a spot at Nationals with a score of 1566.

Ava Miller led the Hillcrest archers with a new personal best of 286 and finished with a rank of 5th out of 404 overall girls, the 5th place finish earned her an individual spot of a Nationals and a plaque. Nafziger finished with a score of 268 and a rank of 106 out of 404 overall girls. The high school 3D team brought home some hardware by finishing 3rd out of 29 teams, also securing a spot at Nationals with a score of 1701.

The middle school and high school teams will travel to Louisville, Kentucky May 8-10 for the 2025 US Eastern National Competition.
