Ravens Girls Cross Country Team Soars to Second Place at Southeast Iowa Super Conference Meet; Personal Bests Highlight Hillcrest’s Performance at SEISC

The Hillcrest Raven girls cross country team placed second at the Southeast Iowa Super Conference meet Thursday in Columbus at the Cedar Crest Golf Course. The meet included all sixteen teams from the conference and is the highest finish for Hillcrest since 2006 when the team also finished second. Unranked Pekin won the team title with seventy-nine points. Hillcrest was just two points ahead of fifteenth-ranked Danville and eight points ahead of Mediapolis. Marie Yoder was the runner-up finishing in 20:01 behind Chloe Glosser of Pekin. Glosser toured the course in 19:14. Siena Stanerson had another very strong showing placing fourth in a personal best time of 20:39. Both Yoder and Stanerson earned all-conference status by placing in the top fifteen. Rya Scott placed sixteenth in a new personal best time of 22:50. Senior Delaney Shaw placed forty-sixth in 25:55. Brynna O’Rourke ran a season-best time of 27:13 to place fifty-third. Scott, Shaw, and O’Rourke all passed other runners in the final stretch of the race, allowing Hillcrest to place ahead of rivals Danville and Mediapolis.

The Hillcrest Raven boys team placed eighth in the field of twelve full teams at the SEISC hosted by Columbus on Thursday. Senior Jesse Blossom led the way placing twenty-fifth in a career-best time of 18:57. Classmate Micah Gerber was next for the Ravens placing thirty-sixth in 19:32. Braden Hartsock was briefly ahead of Gerber near the finish as he was on his way to a new personal best of 19:37. Hartsock finished in thirty-eighth place. Isaac Beachy also had a personal best time finishing in fifty-third with a time of 20:21. Senior Jeremiah Danker also had his fastest race ever. Danker placed seventy-third in 21:55. Mateo Rodriguez-Yoder was four places back and finished with a personal best time of 22:39. Senior Kyle Neuschwander placed eighty-third in 24:07. This is his new personal best time. 1A fourth-ranked Danville won the team title with 2A eighteenth-ranked Mediapolis placing second. Jackson Shacklett of Danville won the individual title with a time of 16:49.

The Hillcrest junior high boys team placed second out of seven full boys teams. Calvin Meller
of Hillcrest won the 1.81 mile race in 10:48. Jaxson Brokaw placed sixth. Personal best paces
were run by Meller, Evan Slaubaugh, Paxton Wilson, Oliver Miller, Kellen Miller and Lucas
Beachy. Adia Scott placed twenty-fifth in the girls race in her fastest race this year. The Middle School IACTA State Meet will be October 19 at Ankeny Centennial High School, with girls 1A starting at 2:10 and boys 1A starting at 2:35 pm.

The Hillcrest Academy cross country high school teams compete next at a 1A state qualifier meet on October 24
at a location yet to be revealed.
