Ravens Fall to Arrows on Senior Night

The Hillcrest Academy Raven volleyball team celebrated their first Senior Night since 2021 Tuesday, but it was the Wapello Arrows that got the win in Kalona in four sets. The Arrows victory came by scores of 25-19, 21-25, 25-23 and 25-19. This week, Hillcrest head coach Brandon Statler joined KCII Sports to talk about the difference in the match and his seniors.

Statler said, “The atmosphere in the gym on Tuesday to honor these ladies was amazing! We started out identifying their hitters. Everything we scouted was spot on first set, we just fell short. Second set we executed the game plan. Third set they switched gears and went to tipping and it took us a little bit to adjust. Fourth set, they got on a run early, some things just didn’t go our way, we almost fought back and pushed it to five. We just fell short. Credit to Wapello, they played great. My biggest change over the years with having the senior leadership on the floor is you see that when we get stuck in a spot, it is the seniors that find a hole, a different angle to take it to the defense. These ladies have done that. I’m pretty proud of that!”
