Ravens Rise to the Challenge: Highlights from the Iowa City Kickers Invitational

The Hillcrest Ravens met up with some quality competition at the Iowa City Kickers soccer complex Thursday at the Bud and Bonnie Williams Invitational hosted by Iowa City High. The girls placed tenth in the field of thirteen teams. The nine teams in front of the Ravens are either 4A or ranked 3A teams. Marie Yoder had her best race of the season placing fourteenth in 19:57 on the 5.04 kilometer course. Siena continues to bring her times down. Stanerson was second for the Ravens placing thirty-seventh in a personal best time of 21:25. Rya Scott was the third finisher for the Ravens placing seventy-sixth in 24:12. Delaney Shaw placed ninety-second in 26:38. Brynna O’Rourke was the fifth scorer for the Ravens placing 103 rd in 28:47. Marissa Ferebee of Pella won the girls race in 17:47 to lead the Lady Dutch to the team title. Pella is ranked number one in 3A and will be at the Hillcrest Invitational Monday, October 7.

Jesse Blossom again led the Ravens boys team in Iowa City Thursday afternoon. Blossom placed eighty-second in 19:57. Braden Hartsock continues to run well. Hartsock placed ninety-third in 20:52. Isaac Beachy was 106th in 21:28. Jeremiah Danker sprinted past Mateo Rodriguez-Yoder just before the finish line. The pair placed 124th and 125th in 23:57 and 23:58. This was Rodrigues-Yoder’s fastest race ever. Junior Canaan Dunhamof Pella won the race in 15:42 over thirty seconds ahead of second place. Cedar Rapids Prairie won the team title with 32 points.

In the middle school races for Hillcrest Calvin Meller, Jaxson Brokaw, Simon Willems,
Troy Yoder, Kellen Miller and Lucas Beachy all recorded personal bests with Adia Scott
landing a season best time.

Monday October 7 the Raven cross country teams host the Hillcrest Academy Invitational
on the school campus and in the Joetown woods. The meet features thirteen boys and
girls high school teams and eleven middle school teams. The meet starts at 4:00 p.m. with
two junior high races followed by four high school races beginning with the girls junior
varsity race at 4:35 p.m. Come cheer for the Ravens!
