Yoder Wins Girls’ Race; Middle School XC Competes for the First Time

Seniors Jesse Blossom and Micah Gerber led the Hillcrest Raven harriers Thursday in Fairfield. Twenty teams with 174 total finishers competed in the boy’s race. Team results were split out based on school size with Hillcrest placing fourth of eight teams in the smaller school A division. Both A and AA divisions competed in the same race. Blossom slipped ahead of Gerber at the finish line to place thirty-ninth overall in a personal best time of 19:19. Gerber finished one second later in 19:20. Braden Hartsock was the Ravens’ third stick finishing in 21:04. This is also his new personal best. Isaac Beachy was next for the Ravens crossing the line 21:17 after the gun fired to place seventy-fifth overall. Micah Kacmarynski held off Jeremiah Danker at the line. Both were clocked at 23:52 for 125th and 126th places. Mateo Rodrigez-Yoder also lowered his personal best time. 24:33 placed him 135th. Kyle Neuschwander placed 149th in 25:31. Lincoln Bainbridge of Van Buren won the boys’ race in 16:52. Danville won the team race in the small school division.

Sophomore Marie Yoder won the girls’ combined race at the Fairfield Invitational Cross Country meet Thursday at Waterworks Park in Fairfield. Yoder sprinted past Iris Dahl of Washington with 100 meters to go and opened up a seven-second gap by the finish line. Yoder’s time was 20:21. Siena Stanerson was the next Lady Raven to cross the line. Stanerson finished twenty-fifth overall in 23:06. Rya Scott was four places back in twenty-sixth to finish in a new personal best time of 23:27. Delaney Shaw placed sixty-fourth in 26:43. Brynna O’Rourke placed eighty-fifth in 28:45. The Ravens placed second out of seven teams in the small school division. There were 111 finishers in the girl’s race. Danville won the A team division.

It was a historic day first day of competition for the Hillcrest Academy middle school cross country teams. One girl and eleven boys competed in the junior high races. The Hillcrest boys team placed second of three complete teams in the small school division. Hillcrest tied with Oskaloosa for having the most finishers in the boys’ junior high race among all schools present.
The Ravens compete next at Noll Ridge Country Club in North English on Tuesday, September 17.
