Hillcrest Falls Short in Nail-biter Soccer Match

Hillcrest Soccer 5.20.2024
Hillcrest 1, Mid-Prairie 2

On a beautiful spring evening fans were treated to a closely contested soccer match between two neighboring schools. Mid-Prairie prevailed behind goals early in each half leading to the 2-1 final score. Hillcrest’s goal came late in the first half when Micah Gerber sent a cross into the box where Mason Swartzendruber beat the defender and goalie to the ball to tap it into the net.

Much of the game was a defensive battle in the midfield as midfielders, Mason Bender, Seth Ours, Kale Bailey, Jesse Blossom and Micah Gerber both defended and tried to create scoring opportunities. The back line of Bryce Bailey, Mason Helmuth, Lincoln Miller and Isaac Birky did a great job of stymying the strong Mid-Prairie attack. Goalie Kyle Neuschwander recorded 4 saves in a strong performance.

Hillcrest finishes the season with a 10-4 overall record and the regular season conference title. Hillcrest says goodbye to it’s lone senior, Mason Swartzendruber.
