Playing two consecutive nights, there were perhaps a few tired legs, but still the Ravens over Cedar Valley Christian 5-0 on a chilly, blustery night. The Ravens opened the scoring five minutes into the match when Micah Gerber sent a corner kick into the box where Mason Bender was waiting to head it into the goal for the early lead. For the next few minutes play was a bit ragged as Cedar Valley created some good chances. Past the midpoint of the half, Seth Ours beat a defender on the left side before sliding a pass to Gerber who sent the ball into the corner of the goal from near the 18 yard line. Minutes later Gerber got the ball to Rowan Miller making a run into the box. Miller calmly angled it by the goalie. With two minutes left in the half Ours got the ball to Miller a second time and once again Miller converted the opportunity for the 4-0 halftime lead.

The Ravens completed the scoring after five minutes of the second half as Miller sent the ball to Jesse Blossom who hammered the ball into the net.

As the offensive unit was creating chances, the defense held up, limiting Cedar Valley’s chances to score. The back line of Bryce Bailey, Mason Helmuth, Isaac Birky and LIncoln Miller did an excellent job of covering for each other and stepping in front of shots that otherwise would have been dangerous. Kyle Neuschwander tallied 4 saves in helping keep a “clean sheet.”

Hillcrest moves to 6-0 on the season, 4-0 in conference play. The Ravens return to action next Tuesday, traveling to Wapello.
