Washington Demon Coed Relays April 4, 2024
The Hillcrest Ravens track and field teams were finally able to compete outdoors April 4 in Washington after having two previous meet canceled due to unfavorable weather. The Demon Coed relays were added to the schedule as a make-up meet. The girls team placed eighth in the field of thirteen teams. The team had five fourth place finishes beginning with the sprint medley relay. The quartet of Morgyn Nafziger, Niva Helmuth, Delaney Shaw and Rya Scott ran legs of 100 meters, 100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters respectively in 2:02.42 seconds to earn that fourth place. Scott also had a fourth place in the 100 meters in a personal best time of 13.18 seconds. Scott continued on to place fourth in the long jump with a best jump of 14 feet 5.25 inches. She also placed fifth in the 200 meters running the half-lap race in 27.83 seconds. Marie Yoder also had two fourth place finishes in the 3000 and 1500 meter runs. Both race times were personal best times. Yoder finished the 3000 in 11:35.35 and the 1500 in 5:21.46. Sophomore Siena Stanerson had her Hillcrest Raven track and field debut in the two distance events. Stanerson finished the 3000 in 12:03.69 which is a 58 second personal best. She ran the 1500 in 5:40.30 which is a 27 second personal best. The Ravens had a number of other strong performances. Morgyn Nafziger ran the 100 meters in 14.31. Delaney Shaw ran the 400 meters in 1:11.13. The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Nafziger, Helmuth, Natalie Meganathan and Shaw placed ninth in 56.88 seconds. Shaw and Nafziger competed in the long jump and Helmuth threw the shot put and competed in the high jump. The Ravens track and field teams compete next at Lone Tree Monday April 8.

Three boys represented Hillcrest placing tenth in the field of thirteen boys teams. Owen Scott had a great day earning all the Raven’s points in three of his four open events. He placed second in the 200 in a new personal best time of 24.96 seconds. Kale Bailey placed tenth in the 200 in 26.46 seconds. Scott tied his personal best in the high jump clearing six feet to place third. Bailey placed ninth with a best jump of five feet six inches. In the long jump Scott also placed third with a best jump of nineteen feet nine inches going into the wind. Braden Hartsock placed nineteenth in the long jump soaring thirteen feet seven inches. Freshmen Kale Bailey and Braden Hartsock recorded personal bests in the 400. Bailey place eighth in 58.78 seconds while Hartsock brought his time down to 1:05.62. Also on the track, Scott and Bailey ran the 100 meter dash in 12.22 and 12.51 seconds respectively.
