Ravens Compete at Central College

At Central College Indoor March 15 and 16, 2024
The Hillcrest Ravens boys track and field team travelled to Central College in Pella for their second indoor meet of the season Friday, March 15. In the high jump, Owen Scott cleared the bar at six feet even to tie for third place and to tie his personal best. Freshman Kale Bailey had a season best clearing the bar at 5’ 9.75” for seventh place in the field of twenty jumpers. Scott also placed third in the long jump with a best jump of 20’ 1.75”. Freshman Braden Hartsock placed thirty-fifth with a best jump of 16’ 2.25” in a field of fifty-one. All three athletes ran the 200 meter dash with Scott and Bailey finishing in 25.78 and 25.79 seconds respectively for forty-third and forty-fifth places. Bailey’s time was a personal best. Hartsock finished in 28.13 seconds for one hundred thirty-third in the field of one hundred ninety-nine. Bailey and Hartsock sprinted the sixty meter strait away on the indoor track placing sixty-third and one hundred fifteenth in 7.88 and 8.28 seconds respectively. One hundred ninety-nine athletes also competed in the 60 meter dash. Hartsock finished the day for the Ravens running a personal best time of 1:08.15 in the 400 meter dash.
The Hillcrest Ravens girls track and field team competed at the Central indoor meet Saturday March 16. Marie Yoder and Rya Scott both had fifth place finishes. Yoder placed fifth in the 3000 meter run in 11:57.00. Scott placed fifth in the 200 meter dash in a new personal best time of 27.64 seconds. Niva Helmuth and Morgyn Nafziger also ran the 200 meters in 31.24 and 31.29 respectively. Nafziger’s 31.29 is a new personal best. Scott ran the 60 meter dash preliminary round in 8.08 seconds was the second best qualifying time. It was also a personal best. Her time was 8.25 seconds in the finals placing her tenth overall. Nafziger placed forty-fifth in the 60 meters in a new personal best time of 8.75 seconds. Niva Helmuth covered the distance in 8.96 seconds. Natalie Meganathan raced the 60 meters in 10.06 seconds. The quartet of Nafziger, Meganathan, Helmuth and Scott joined forces for the 4 x 200 meters. They placed twentieth in 2:07.73. Marie Yoder also ran the 1500 meter run placing eleventh with at time of 5:28.39. Scott and Nafziger competed in the long jump placing thirtieth and thirty-ninth with best jumps of 13’11.75” and 13’7.50” respectively. Helmuth threw the shot put 25’ 7.25” to place fortieth in her first attempt at the event. The Ravens compete next in Wapello March 26. The Columbus meet scheduled for March 18 will not be held due to cold forecasted weather.
