Ravens Fly High in Season Opener

The Hillcrest Ravens track and field teams opened their seasons Thursday and Friday at the Iowa Track Coaches Association Indoor State meet held at Lied Recreation and Fitness Center at Iowa State University in Ames.  Sophomore Owen Scott and Freshman Kale Bailey both competed in the high jump in the boys 1A division Thursday.  Scott cleared the bar at five feet nine inches for sixth place equaling his jump at this meet last year.  Bailey successfully cleared the bar at five feet seven inches to place twelfth.


Three Ravens competed in the girls meet Friday March 8.  Sophomore Rya Scott burst on the scene in her first varsity track and field competition by scoring in four events and recording two personal bests.  Scott was third in the long jump with a personal best jump of fifteen feet seven and one half inches.  Delaney Shaw placed fifteenth in the long jump with a best jump of fourteen feet three inches.  Scott placed fifth in the sixty meter dash running 8.18 in the finals.  Her preliminary time was 8.13 seconds.  She also placed fifth in the 400 meter dash in a personal best time of 1:02.12.  In the 200 meter dash Scott placed seventh with a time of 27.63.  Freshman Marie Yoder also had a great day in her first high school track and field competition.  Yoder placed fifth in the 3000 meter run in 11:36.35.  This is her first time competing in the event.  Yoder ran a personal best time in the 1500 meter run finishing in 5:24.12.  She placed eleventh in the event.
