February Chapels Recap

February Chapels Recap

After the stop-start rhythm of January due to snow, February has brought a return to normalcy for our chapel routine. We have continued our general pattern of spiritual practice (Monday), small groups (Tuesday), faith formative input (Wednesday-Thursday), and worship (Friday).

Monday chapels have included Bible study, prayer, open-mic testimonies, and a teaching on the Heidelberg Catechism by freshman Cohen Nachtigall. It was especially meaningful to see Nachtigall speak in front of his peers about a resource that has been used to instruct Christians for nearly five centuries.

Valentines Week brought an atmosphere of levity, as well as an opportunity to reflect on what faith-based relationships look like. A panel of faculty and staff members were invited to share about how they met their spouses and how God has worked through their marriages. National FFA Week prompted us to learn about farming in Iowa and to reflect on creation as a gift we are called to steward.

We continue to benefit from the worship leading gifts of our praise team, led by music teacher Mikayla Tackaberry. We’re thankful for volunteer hymn leaders from our local congregations. It was also fun to have former Bible teacher, Lee Ebersole, back to lead us in a hymn sing!

Speakers this month have included Mike Barr (Crosspoint Baptist Church), Rachel Swartzendruber ’98 Miller, and Chris Nachtigall (Hillcrest, Lower Deer Creek). Barr shared a gospel message on truth, lies, and the invitation to serve God. Swartzendruber Miller spoke on the value of music in our faith journeys. Nachtigall reflected on Isaiah 43:1 and selections from The Chosen, offering the students an invitation to respond to God’s call.

Other chapels included affirmation notes, Bible trivia, a week reflecting on the story of Daniel and the Lion’s Den, and a presentation from our guidance counselor, Tom Carey.

We invite your continued prayers as we wrap up our third quarter. You’re welcome to join us for chapel every day from 9:59-10:19. Here is a link to the most up to date chapel schedule to see what’s coming. We would love to see you!
