January Chapels Recap

January Chapels Recap

We have continued our weekly pattern of spiritual practice (Monday), small groups (Tuesday), faith formative input (Wednesday-Thursday), and worship (Friday). At the same time, cancellations and delays due to snow have significantly reduced the number of chapels we’ve had. The good news is that it looks like we are finally finding a rhythm for our spring semester!

One spiritual practice that has been common on Mondays recently is Bible study. Chapel participants are invited to sit in small groups to reflect on a Bible story. This is an opportunity for students and staff to prayerfully study scripture, recognizing that the Holy Spirit speaks to us through the communal discernment of God’s word. It has been especially delightful to hear students reflect on their discernment during an open mic time following their group discussion.

We heard from a variety of speakers in January, including Josh Lundberg (Kalona Mennonite), Aaron Flemming (New Life, Wellman), and Michael Swartzendruber (Wayland Mennonite). Topics included the sin of pride, ‘thorny’ (challenging) Bible stories and questions, and reading the Bible through the eyes of Jesus. We continue to be thankful for wise, encouraging words from our church community this year!

Other chapels this month included a hymn sing, praise band, Bible trivia, and structured prayer.

We invite your continued prayers in the weeks and months to come. As always, the community is welcome to join us for chapel every day (except for Tuesdays when we have small groups) from 9:59-10:19 AM. Here is a link to the most up to date chapel schedule in case you’d like to see what’s coming. We would love to see you!
