Yoder Punches Ticket to State

Freshman Marie Yoder gets first place at the State Qualifier Meet on Monday!

State Qualifier Meet in Iowa City

Freshman Raven Marie Yoder ran away with the victory at the 1A State Qualifier meet in Iowa City Thursday.  Yoder ran the course at the Iowa City Kickers Soccer Complex in 20:30.  Jayden Peters of Collins-Maxwell placed second finishing over thirty seconds later.  The top ten individuals qualify to run in the state meet next week in Fort Dodge.  Marie will be competing in the 1A race 2:00 p.m. on Friday.  Rya Scott was the second Raven to finish the girls race.  She placed thirty-first in 24:10.  Scott came back from a bad ankle sprain early in the season to compete in the final six meets of the season.  Delaney Shaw was the next Lady Raven to cross the finish line.  Shaw placed thirty-sixth in 25:14.  This was a forty-six second improvement over her time at this meet last year on the same course.  Brynna O’Rourke recorded a new personal best time at her final meet of the season.  She finished the course in 27:02 in fifty-fourth place.  Both Shaw and O’Rourke ran their third mile faster than the first two miles of the race.  The Ravens did not have the five finishers needed to be in the team standings.  Regina won the team title while Collins-Maxwell placed second.  The top two teams advance to the state meet.

Junior Micah Gerber had a career best performance to lead the Ravens men’s team to eleventh place in the field of thirteen full teams.  Five additional schools did not field full teams.  The Ravens were three points out of ninth place.  Gerber placed twenty-sixth with a time of 19:05.  Jesse Blossom was next for the Ravens placing thirty-eighth in 19:48.  Blossom was thirty-two seconds faster than his time at the state qualifier on the same course last year.  Isaac Beachy took over thirty seconds off his previous personal best time to place sixty-fourth in 21:22.  Braden Hartsock was twenty seconds faster than his previous best time.  Hartsock placed eightieth in 23:07.  Jeremiah Danker placed eighty-sixth in 23:45.  That is a thirty second improvement over his time at this meet last year.  Micah Kacmarynski had the biggest improvement on the team.  Kacmarynski ran the course in 24:01 placing eighty-eighth. This was forty-eight seconds faster than his previous personal best set only last week.  Lincoln Bainbridge of Van Buren County won the boys race in 16:52.  Gage Heyne of North English was second in 17:11.  Regina won the team title with 51 points over Danville’s 60 points.

The Iowa State High School Cross Country Championships will be held next Friday October 27 and Saturday October 28 at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge.  The 1A girl’s race is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday.  Best wishes to Marie Yoder as she represents Hillcrest Academy in this race.
