Yoder wins at Mediapolis

Mediapolis Invitational at Heritage Oaks

Marie Yoder came away with her first high school cross country victory at the Mediapolis Cross Country Invitational Thursday at Heritage Oaks.  Yoder finished one minute and twenty-nine seconds ahead of Alaina Gourley of Danville.  Her time was 20:42.  Both Rya Scott and Delaney Shaw also medaled for the Ravens.  Scott placed seventh in 23:56.  Shaw placed thirteenth in 25:06.  Brynna O’Rourke placed twenty-eighth in 27:50.  Scott, Shaw and O’Rourke each sprinted past a competitor in the final meters of the race.  Danville won the girls team title.

Juniors Micah Gerber and Jesse Blossom placed ninth and tenth respectively in the boys race leading the Ravens to fourth place in the field of five full teams.  Gerber’s time of 19:06 was a season best.  Blossom’s time of 19:22 is his new personal best.  Isaac Beachy was the next Raven to cross the finish line in 22:56 for forty-first place.  Jeremiah Danker was not far behind placing forty-fifth in a new personal best time of 23:14.  Micah Kacmarynski took a full minute off his previous personal best time.  Kacmarynski placed forty-ninth in 24:49.  Braden Hartsock was the sixth Raven to cross the finish line.  He placed fiftieth in 25:36.  Owen Schmidgall of Mediapolis beat the defending champion Solomon Zaugg also of Mediapolis for the individual title.  Schmidgall’s time was 16:22.  Mediapolis won the boys team title.

The Hillcrest Academy girls and boys cross country teams will compete in the 1A state qualifier meet hosted by Regina at Iowa City Kickers Soccer Complex next Thursday October 19.  The girls race is at 4:00 p.m. and the boys begin at 4:45 p.m.  The top two teams and ten individuals in each race qualify to advance to the state meet held in Fort Dodge Friday October 27.  Come show your support for the Ravens.
