Marie Yoder had a breakout race on the University of Iowa Cross Country Course Thursday in Iowa City. The Raven freshman lowered her personal best time to 20:22 to place twenty-fifth at the Bud and Bonnie Williams Cross Country Invitational hosted by Iowa City High. This season Marie has been running faster than any previous Lady Raven in history over the 5k distance. Thursday was her fastest yet. Rya Scott was the second finisher for the Ravens placing seventy-ninth in 24:20. Delaney Shaw
was the team’s third finisher completing the course in a season best time of 26:08 for ninety-sixth place. Brynna O’Rourke lowered her personal best time to 27:18 which placed her one hundred second in the stacked field. Leah Klapatauskas from Dubuque Senior won the race in 18:33 leading her team to a narrow victory over Pleasant Valley.

The Raven men’s cross country team placed eleventh of twelve teams in the stacked field on the Division I caliber course Thursday in Iowa City. Micah Gerber was back after being out due to illness last week. Gerber placed seventy-second in a season best time of 19:07. Jesse Blossom was not far behind placing seventy-seventh in 19:30. Braden Hartsock showed improvement by lowering his personal best time to 24:02. That placed him one hundred third. Jeremiah Danker was the next finisher in 24:19. Kyle Neuschwander was two places behind Danker with a time of 25:08. Alex Castillo competed in the junior varsity race placing one hundred eighty-ninth in 25:52 which is his season best. AJ Schermerhorn from Ankeny Centennial won the boys varsity race in 15:34. Iowa City High won the team title in a two-point squeaker over Dubuque Senior.

Monday October 2 the Raven cross country teams host the Hillcrest Academy Invitational on the school campus and in the Joetown woods. The meet features fifteen boys and girls high school teams. The meet starts at 4:00 p.m. with two junior high races followed by four high school races beginning with the girls junior varsity race at 4:35 p.m. Come cheer for the Ravens!
