Ravens Softball comes up with another SEISC conference road win!

Coming off a challenging week prior, the Ravens Softball team traveled to New London where they have come up short in tight one-run ball games the last couple of years, including a first-round tournament game thriller that ended on the wrong-side for the Ravens and closing out the 2021 season and 4 stand-out Seniors that year.

In the Raven’s top half of the first inning, Sophomore Lead-off hitter Malia Yoder got things started with reaching base on a walk.  Morgyn Nafziger then advances Malia on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt.  Following another walk to Delaney Shaw.  Two consecutive passed balls allowed both Malia and Delaney to advance bases and scoring the first run of the ball game for the Ravens.  Kylee Statler then punched Delaney in on an RBI single up the middle to extend the lead for the Ravens 2-0.  The Ravens offensive would come alive again in the top half of the second inning putting up 5 runs when Freshman Adrianne Blauvelt and Stavia Miller reach base on a walk and hit, respectively.  Morgyn Nafziger then knocked in 2 runs on an single.  Delaney Shaw then connected on a fastball that hit the left-field fence scoring Malia Yoder, who earlier reached base from a hit-by-pitch, and Nafziger.  Later, Shaw scores on a sneaky delayed steal play at home making the score 7-1.

New London didn’t back down, coming up with 3 runs of their own in the bottom half of the third inning and making it 7-4.  But it was the Ravens composure and aggressiveness at the plate that tallied three runs in the 4th and 6 runs in the 6th to end the run for New London and secure the 16-6 well deserved victory.

Leading the way offensively for the Ravens were Shaw with 3 hits, including 2 doubles, 3 runs and 3 RBIs; Stavia Miller with 3 hits and 2 runs scored; Lydia Beachy and Morgyn Nafziger each having 2 hits and 3 RBIs and Malia Yoder having 2 hits, 2 RBIs, and 4 Runs scored.  Malia Yoder picked up her 4th win in the circle by only allowing 2 earned runs scattered over 6 innings pitched and 5 strikeouts.  The Ravens Softball team will hosts a couple of home games starting Tuesday night against Louisa-Muscatine, followed by a day-game against West Burlington (varsity starts at 1pm, with the JV game to follow).  Then they are back on the road at Pekin on Thursday, while coming back home again on Friday against Wapello and then the annual Hillcrest Classic on Saturday where the Ravens will face off against Danville at 10am, Columbus and English Valleys game at 12pm, with the consolation game to follow and the Championship game starting at approximately 4pm.
