Hillcrest Competes at State Qualifier

At State 1A-10 State Qualifier (WACO) May 11, 2023
Freshman Owen Scott medaled in three events at the 1A-10 State Qualifier meet Thursday hosted by WACO. Scott’s highest placing was in the long jump. He placed fourth with a best jump of twenty feet three and one half inch. Scott was seventh in the high jump clearing the bar at five feet eight inches. He was eighth in the 100 meter dash in 12.17 seconds. This was the first time running the event this year. His eight points placed Hillcrest eleventh in the field of fourteen teams.
The girls’ team had some great performances, including three personal bests in the sprints, but did not make in on the scoreboard as a team. Eight places score and medal at the state qualifier meets. Morgyn Nafziger was ninth in the 200 meter dash with a personal best of 30.15 seconds. Erin Bontrager also recorded a personal best in the 200 of 31.61 seconds for thirteenth place. Delaney Shaw was ninth in the 400 meter dash in 1:08.59 which is just off her personal best. Bontrager was fourteenth in 1:19.65. The sprint medley relay team of Nafziger, Bontrager, Anna Torok and Shaw placed ninth in 2:07.09. Torok placed tenth in the long jump with thirteen feet one half inch. Shaw was twelfth with twelve feet four and one half inch. Nafziger lowered her best time in the 100 meter dash by .01 seconds to 14.07 which placed her eleventh. Torok was fifteenth in 14.33 seconds in the event. The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Nafziger, Torok, Bontrager and Shaw placed eleventh in 57.00.
To qualify for state in 1A track and field you must either win your event at the state qualifier meet or have one of the next fourteen best marks across the state. There are twenty-four qualifiers in each event. The complete lists of qualifiers will be announced once all the results of the ten qualifier meets can be verified.
