LF to RT: Ethan Yoder, Seth Ours, Josiah Beachy, Liam Schrock, Luke Schrock, Jace Rempel, Rowan Miller, & Coach Phil Schintler

For the third straight year, the Hillcrest Raven Golf team has qualified for the district tournament. Three years ago, the Ravens finished third in the Sectionals but were able to go as host English Valleys placed in the top two on their home course. Last year, the Ravens finished outright second in Sectionals to earn a berth in the district tourney plus gain a state qualifier. This year, the Ravens took first place at English Valleys in an 8 team Sectional, narrowly edging English Valleys and Regina. Hillcrest finished with a 330 team score, EV with a 336 and Regina 341.

The Ravens were led by Jace Rempel with a 79 and Luke Schrock with an 81. Liam Schrock and Rowan Miller both added 85’s to complete the scoring. Liam Schrock was still recovering from his ailment on Monday and even eagled hole number 3, a par 5, despite being very tired. Seth Ours and Josiah Beachy both added four 9 hole rounds today under 50.

Coach Schintler commented “The Ravens played solid today. Not exciting golf, but solid team golf. Despite shooting 330, this was not their best day. Not having their best day they still came out on top. They all know their best days are just around the corner.”

The Class 1A boys golf sectional Wednesday at English Valleys didn’t disappoint. Great play and drama were the theme for seven teams vying for next week’s district meet. The top two teams plus top two individuals outside of those teams qualified for districts. The Hillcrest Academy Ravens continued their perfect season, capturing the sectional championship with a team score of 330. Jace Rempel had the top Raven round with a 79, to finish fourth overall. Other Hillcrest cards included Luke Schrock 81, Liam Schrock and Rowan Miller 85, Seth Ours 87 and Josiah Beachy 92. Following the meet, the Hillcrest crew joined KCII Sports to talk about their win. Beachy said, “It was pretty intense, but I had optimism because I was pretty sure that we at least qualified, but I was still sweating it out.”
