Soccer Weekly Recap and Senior Night Recognition
May 4, Burlington Notre Dame 1-5
A busy week grounded the Ravens in two different styles of games. Thursday the Ravens traveled to Burlington Notre Dame atop the conference standings. Playing more defensively, the Ravens were able to keep the Nikes off the scoreboard until the midway point of the first half when Notre Dame hit a long shot from 25 yards out, which found the back of the net. Minutes later, the Nikes struck again from distance to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The Ravens came out more aggressively in the second half creating several chances. The Nikes capitalized on two crosses into the box, scoring on head balls before finishing their scoring with another shot from distance.
Playing hard until the end, Phoenix Anderson got the ball to Grant Bender who beat two defenders before slotting the ball for the final 5-1 score.
May 5, WACO 0-1
The Ravens controlled possession and peppered the WACO goal with 20 shots on goal, but couldn’t get anything by their goalie. The Ravens played well, controlling the ball as the defenders limited WACO to one shot, but the Warriors made it count, hitting the goal with 11 minutes remaining in the first half.
In the second half, WACO sat deeper making it even more difficult to break through to find the equalizer, let alone the winning goal.
With the losses this week, Hillcrest drops to 4-5 overall and finishes the conference race at 3-5. Hillcrest returns to action Thursday, May 11, hosting the Washington Demons with a start time of 6:30.
