Hillcrest Hires Veteran School Counselor

Principal Dwight Gingerich is excited to announce that Tom Carey will join the Hillcrest Academy team in the fall of 2023 to fill the School Counselor position. Tom comes to Hillcrest after serving at Iowa City High the last 23 years.

A native of northwest Iowa, Tom is a 1986 graduate of Paton-Churdan Community Schools and a 1990 graduate of Briar Cliff University (Sioux City), with a major in English Education. Tom did his graduate work in School Counseling at Wayne State (NE). Tom is a member of the Newman Catholic Center in Iowa City. Tom and wife Amanda have two sons, Noah and Will. Amanda serves as a teacher librarian at Horace Mann Elementary, Noah is a senior and Will is in the 8th grade. 

Tom enjoys spending time with his family, running, watching and talking about sports, and traveling on short trips whenever possible.
